OLD CORINTH CEMETERY

Located off Hwy 167, 4 miles south of Winnfield on the Tabernacal Road

The old brush harbor has been torn down.
All that is left is a very peaceful cemetery that is well taken care of,
but some of the tombstones could stand some repair.

...

Above: Old and new, tombstones of all sizes and shapes.
There are many unmarked graves.

Below: In 37 years, Ella B. Blackstock-Long-Womack's grave has sunk 50% of its height. In another 35 years, it will have disappeared! While Josephine Long-Hand's grave has stood for 100 years already, without disappearing... and it is not the oldest tombstone in the cemetery.

This cemetery needs a "working day" complete with family poring bases and resetting and repairing stones and eating lunch, getting to know family and ancestors all over again!

...

...

Above: Like the people themselves, their stones show their lives: Some are leaning, some are broken, and others have finally fallen.

Below:
Out of sight, Out of mind? Only 4 miles from Winnfield.

......

Time to head home from the final resting place
for lots of Smith, Long, Porter, Hand and other "old" Winn Parish families.

NOTE: Some of these families are related to me.

Gone, but not forgotten?
