Helen was born in Greece and immigrated to America at the age of 9. She attended schools in Davis, California and recieved her degree in home Economics from UC Davis. She was an active memeber of Designing Women and Garden Club. Helen was an active member of Saint Basils Greek Orthodox Church in Stockton, including the Philoptochos Society and the Silver Tigers. Helen, together with her late husband, Peter, were lifelong supporters and volunteers of the Church and worked tirelessly for the Greek Food Festival for over 40 years. Helens love of artistry was apparent throughout her life. She became very accomplished in many artistic fields. She touched many other lives through her art. From early years working at the Gaines Variety stores to decorating the Epitaphio for the Easter church service or the Stockton Civic Auditorium stage for the Festival or the many floral arrangements she made to decorate at O'Connor Woods Retirement Living Complex. Helen was the beloved wife of 57 years of the late, Peter Gaines; and loving mother of Phil Gaines, of Davis, Jim Gaines, of Fort Bragg and Rick Gaines, of Lockeford. Cherished grandmother of Susie Gaines and Nikole Reina-Guerra. Great- grandmother of Alayna Gomez, Davis Reina-Guerra, and Abby Reina-Guerra. Dear sister of Bessie Koniarias, Evelyn Jouganatos, Cally Anagnos, Peggy Swisher and the late, George Belenis and Nick Belenis. Friends are invited to attend Trisagion Services on Monday, August 30, 2004, 7:00 p.m., at St. Basil Greek Orthodox Church, 920 W. March Lane, Stockton. Funeral Services will be held at St. Basil Orthodox Church on Tuesday, August 31, 2004, 10:00 a.m. Visitation will be at DeYoung Shoreline Chapel, 7676 Shoreline Dr., Monday from 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Committal will be at Cherokee Memorial Park, Lodi.
