Priest River Times Priest River, Bonner County, Idaho Velmer ONeal Dewey, 69 Velmer ONeal Dewey, 69, of Drain, Ore., died peacefully at his home Nov. 2, 2004, his family by his side. Velmer was born Jan. 16, 1935, to Stella (Terrel) and Jesse Lewis Dewey in Pine, Idaho. He married Lois Elaine Brooks May 25, 1957, in Addy, Wash. He graduated from high school and continued his education at numerous colleges before receiving his bachelor's degree from North West Christian College. He served in the United States Marine Corps from January 1957 to January 1960. Velmer lives in the Drain, Ore., area for the past seven years, moving there from South Dakota. He enjoyed woodworking, camping, fishing, photography, and rockhounding. Survivors include his wife, Lois; mother, Stella Dewey of Ione; son Mike (and Heather) Dewey of Drain, Ore.; daughter Janet Dewey; and a special family friend, Liz Labosky, both of Eugene, Ore.; two granddaughters, Bambi and Heather; and three great-grandchildren, Aubrie, Jeffery and Lilee. Also surviving are three brothers; two sisters; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father; a sister, Donna; daughter Ruth; and great-grandson Connor. Memorials may be made in his name to Hillcrest Children's Home in Hotsprings, Arkansas. Funeral services were held at the Ione Cngregational Church at 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 6. Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
