THOMAS, aged 53 years. Interment was at Hollywood cemetery Wednesday. No death has so filled Las Vegas with both surprise and regret as that of Moyd THOMAS. For ten years and over, from the very opening of the townsite to settlement he has been one of our foremost citizens, ever active in all the affairs of the community. In the spring of 1905 he started in the grocery business on First street, moving thence to Second street where the Griffith block now stands. The real progress of the business began when the store was moved into the location now occupied by the Nevada Market. The old Opera house block was bought and the store occupied the location until the disastrous fire occurred which destroyed both stock and building. A new structure was erected on the site, that now occupied by Beckley's store, but fire again caused severe loss. After a rest of about a year from business the store was again opened in its present location. The deceased leaves surviving him, the widow and three children, all grown; Mrs. D. PETTY and Moyd C. THOMAS, Jr. of this city and Roy THOMAS of Victorville. He had been in vigourous health until the past two months when he developed some stomach trouble. This was not considered serious until the final attack which began the Friday before his death. Saturday noon he was taken to the California Hospital and died from the effects of hemorrhage of the stomach Sunday morning. We extend our very sincere sympathy to those who morn. In the death of M. C. THOMAS Vegas lost a good citizen and a kindly friend and his going leaves a void which cannot soon be healed.
