DIRECTIONS TO CEMETERY: - at Pittsfield intersection of Rt. 27 & Rt 7, take Rt 7 west about 2.25 miles to the first turn off past Barton Run Rd. T441, to entrance of Brokenstraw Gravel Pit. Bear right, go clear through the Pit, staying to the right up an incline into the woods. Cemetery is about 100 feet off the old woods road. Bill Burying Ground is an original project of This almost abandoned cemetery is located two miles west of Pittsfield, Warren County, Penna., off Rt. 6. It is necessary to wade Brokenstraw Creek in order to reach it. The property once belonged to Chauncey Bill but was owned by F. E. Billsborough in 1951 when the inscriptions were copied by Mrs. Laverne Voght and Mrs. Frances Ramsey. Mr. Billsborough accompanied and assisted us. Mr. Billsborough reported remembering a William Farnum being buried here. He was shot as a group of boys were playing with guns. This cemetery needs attention badly in 1951. Many stones are down. It is brushed occasionally by Mr. Billsborough. After leaving the attractive motor court on Route 6 on the west end of Pittsfield, count three farm houses on the right. At the third (yellow brick type asphalt siding) stop and park. Cross the cow pasture and wade the Little Brokenstraw. Turn left and up the bank. The bleached trunk of an old chestnut tree and a huge oak mark the site. |
