| THE present Land Agent, Cyrus A. Packard, was born in the town of Hebron, Oxford County, Maine, and when but three years old moved with his parents into the then wilderness of Piscataquis County. He attended town schools, high school, and Foxcroft Academy, commencing to teach school at the age of nineteen, and taught during the winter for several years. He has lived in the town of Blanchard, his present residence, fifty-four years. In his younger days he was interested in the manufacture of lumber. For more than a decade he practiced law, until, nine years ago, he came to Augusta to enter upon the duties of the office he now fills. Mr. Packard served in the Union army from October 1, 1864, until May 13, 1865, at which time he was mustered out of the Seventeenth Regiment, Company G, Maine Volunteers. He has been selectman of his town seventeen years, town clerk sixteen years, and also town treasurer, superinteding school committee, and supervisor. He served nine years as county commissioner of Piscataquis County, and ten years as postmaster. | ![]() |
