Illinois Bend Cemetery

FM 2953 west of Illinois Bend Community
The residents of the Illinois Bend Community came into existence in 1862
and was named for the early settlers from Illinois who were homesick for
their native state. The community sprang up to the south of the Red River
at its bend. The original name of the community was Maxville or Wardville.
Early settlers were Aaron Anderson family and Hatfield family who had several
members of the family killed by Indians. Willett, Buchanan and Dowd families
were also settlers. - Martha Shaffer Thompson
