James Jourdan Ward, Jr.
The photo is printed on glass and was made in the 1830's before tintypes.
He was born in 1808 in Davidson Co. Tennessee.
He came to present day Red River Co. Texas with his father in 1820 in the Wavell Colony. He was a big Texas cattleman.  They said "he was too big for a man and too little for a horse." He moved from Red River Co., Texas to Palo Pinto County in 1856.  He claimed all the land between Santo and Palo Pinto.  He died 29 March 1870 and is buried near present day Lone Camp.  His daughter was Sarah A. (Ward) Humphreys, she married Thomas B. Humphreys.
